How to Highlight

Highlight, highlight and highlight... Highlighting was big in 2016, and 2017 will be no different. With relaxed soft natural makeup trending; bushy eyebrows and all, highlighting will never be a thing of the past (and thank goodness!). We have all witnessed (and taken part in...cough, cough) the well known insta highlight, aka Kylie Jenner, however highlighting does not have to be so intense.

The goal when highlighting is to achieve a natural, more prominent bone structure, that's not to shiny nor glittery, adding dimension and shape to your face.

To create the perfect highlight that is more luminous and less 70's disco, I use Nars Illuminator in the shade Copacabana. This shade is best described as a champagne pearly-pink, suitable for almost all skin tones, especially cooler. Be aware this product goes a long way, little is needed to get that youthful glow.

I've found the best way is to apply a small amount of the product to the high points of the cheeks, down the bridge of the nose and the cupids bow (just above the top of your lips) gently pressing into the skin. This technique will emphasize your natural bone structure, if you have problematic skin avoid using a highlighter that has a shimmer as this often causes acne to stand out; instead opt for a illuminator such as the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

If you find this isn't enough for your taste, and you desire that extra goddess glow, apply a powder highlighter discreetly to intensify. A love of mine which is so versatile on any skin tone is Mac Soft & Gentle.
